Britt Festival 2007 - with Josh Turner
In early September, Nelson was the opening act for country music superstar Josh Turner at the Britt Festival in Jacksonville. “It was an intimidating gig because you know the audience filling the sold out amphitheatre of 2,200 people is not there to see you, they don’t even know who you are, and they’ve never heard any of your music. These are songs that I wrote, stories that mean a lot to me, and I didn’t know if they would resonate with perfect strangers. When I first took the stage, I could feel the audience unsure of who I was and hesitant to give acceptance, but after I started singing the first song the energy changed. People were listening, some people were wiping tears (country music is full of tear-jerkers), and it felt incredible. By the time I finished my set, the audience was whoopin’ and hollerin’! It was amazing.” As Nelson left the stage, she announced that she would be selling CD’s and invited people to come by and say hello. “I went backstage feeling so happy and then when I arrived at the merchandise table I was completely blown away. The line stretched all the way up the hill! I was so amazed to get that much interest and support. Writing country music is a long time love of mine and at this point I wonder just how far it could take me. Who knows? Maybe this is the start of something big…”
